About The Woodmans Stroke
|
|
The
village of Rothley is within easy reach of the towns of
Loughborough and Leicester, yet it feels as if its
worlds apart. Sat in the old part of the village The Woodmans
Stroke, fondly known by the locals as The Woodies,
fits the pastoral scene beautifully.

Built
in 1714 the thatched property is immaculate and looks
at its best during the spring and summer months when it
is draped with colourful hanging baskets and overflowing
window boxes. Wandering
inside, visitors will find a traditional interior of wooden
beams and tiled floors. There is also a large amount of
rugby, cricket and golf memorabilia - with the owners
being keen supporters of the Leicester Tigers and sport
in general.

|
The
Woodies has been run by the Warner family for over ten
years, with sons Simon the cricketer, Jonathan the golfer
(finalist in Golf Pub of the Year 2003) and dad Peter
- the ex-rugby player looking after the bar, leaving daughter
Ann-Marie and mum Jilly-May taking care of the food. The
pub also boasts 4 petanque teams and runs regular buses
to Fortress Welford Road - Home of the Leicester
Tigers.

|
Each
weekday lunchtime there is a fine bar menu served, with
offerings ranging from freshly cut sandwiches to heartier
dishes - including homemade steak and kidney pie. In warm
weather meals can be taken outside to the large landscaped
garden. There's no food served in evenings or weekends
- when the pub becomes perhaps even more popular for its
liquid refreshment and lively conversation.
